Who We Are

National Dialogue on Human Rights in Cambodia: Challenges and Ways Forward, December 4, 2023

WHO WE ARE

The Cambodian Institute for Democracy (CID) is a leading independent think tank committed to strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, upholding the rule of law, and promoting peace and good governance in Cambodia. Established on October 23, 2019, by a group of Cambodian intellectuals, CID was officially registered under the Cambodian Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations (LANGO) in December 2019. CID informs stakeholders through rigorous research, empowers youth and communities through education, fosters collaboration through dialogue, and advocates for policy reforms through evidence-based advocacy and media engagement. Through these efforts, CID strives to create an informed, engaged, and democratic society in Cambodia.

Since 2020, CID has been at the forefront of empowering citizens—particularly youth, activists, and community leaders—through civic education, democracy dialogue, policy advocacy, and digital democracy initiatives. By addressing critical challenges such as shrinking civic space, human rights violations, digital rights restrictions, and governance gaps, CID has played a key role in influencing policies related to fundamental freedoms, anti-corruption, the rule of law, civic education, social development, and independent media. Through its flagship programs, including the Women and Youth Leadership Academy, Democracy Dialogue Programs, Human Rights Academy, Youth Democracy Camp, Civic Education, Policy Advocacy, and Digital Democracy Initiatives, CID has empowered thousands of individuals by enhancing their leadership skills, fostering civic engagement, and strengthening civil society’s ability to defend human rights and advocate for democratic governance. CID also acts as a bridge between citizens, policymakers, and civil society organizations, creating platforms for public discourse, collaboration, and policy reform in Cambodia.
