MoEYS Enhances Integration AI in Education

Pa Chanroeun, Researcher, Political Analyst, Human Rights and Democracy Advocate, and President of Cambodian Institute for Democracy (CID), shared with Kiripost about the significant role of AI in education. He emphasised that AI can greatly enhance students’ learning, provided they are equipped with the skill to use it effectively. He noted that AI not only improves efficiency in various tasks but can also be a powerful tool when utilised positively by individuals who are prepared to harness its potential. Chanrouen praised the collaboration between Minister of Education Hangchuon Naron and the President of Chulalongkorn University concerning the integration of AI into the education sector. He sees this as a valuable effort to raise awareness of AI in educational curricula, which is essential for higher education, he said in a Kiripost interview via Telegram.

“It is crucial for students to understand the development of AI and to cultivate their skill in using it for both academic and professional purposes.”

He noted that the current discourse has shifted away from Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to focus more on digital and AI literacy. He believes that integrating AI into educational curricula is essential. Furthermore, the integration of AI should be approached simply in high schools , with a more in-depth focus at the university’s level. This approach can enhance AI literacy, enabling students to use AI responsibly and to their advantage. He emphasised that in the AI training programme, MoEYS and educators should ensure that AI knowledge is paired with ethical consideration. Without this focus, the use of AI could pose challenges and have negative repercussions for individuals and society as a whole. Read more
